Designed to give an overview of the validity of pain assessment tools used for children. The article also examines the use of paracetamol and ibuprofen as the first line options for the treatment of children's pain and fever

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
1. describe the different pain scales used to assess pain in children and explain the validity of these scales;
2. describe the precautions surrounding the use of over-the-counter paracetamol and ibuprofen drug regimens;
3. describe the effects of food when taken with ibuprofen.
