Who We Are

The Australian College of Pharmacy Practice and Management (ACPPM) was established July 1, 2004 with the amalgamation of the Australian College of Pharmacy Practice (ACPP) and the Australian Institute of Pharmacy Management (AIPM).  In 2009, the College changed its name to the Australian College of Pharmacy.

Both the ACPP and AIPM had a long and distinguished existence, with the organisations established in 1983 and 1978 respectively.  The new "College" combines the ideals and services of both former entities to members with the purpose to develop and promote excellence in the practice of clinical pharmacy and business management.  The College is involved in the development and delivery of education, training and research programs to contribute to the advancement of practice and management within the pharmacy and pharmaceutical industries.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities are directed towards maintaining and raising the standard of pharmacy practice and the public’s perception of the professional status of the pharmacist.

In the light of this purpose, the College has established the following specific objectives:

  • to develop and promote the practice of pharmacy;
  • to promote and recognise a high standard of excellence in the knowledge and practice of pharmacy;
  • to define acceptable standards of practice for members;
  • to promote and advance the education and training of pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and pharmacy managers in all branches of pharmacy practice and management;
  • to develop distance learning professional development programs for pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and pharmacy managers;
  • to grant qualifications and awards to persons achieving such standards of attainment as the College shall require;
  • to conduct, promote and facilitate research into pharmacy practice and management;
  • to liaise with allied professional groups and pharmaceutical organisations, and to publicise the views, policies and aspirations of pharmacists.

The College of today has come a long way since its early days of development.  It continues to be the only education body delivering practice and management programs to all members of the profession and industry.  Because of this, it still embraces the ideals that have underpinned its operations since foundation.  The concept of, and the need for, continual self-development and re-education remain our driving force.
