Designed to give an overview of COPD including signs, symptoms, risk factors, management (including matching the device to the patient and the new COPD-X guidelines covering the use of inhaled corticosteroids), prevention and treatment of exacerbation.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Outline the signs, symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis and monitoring of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  2. Describe the stepwise approach to management of COPD including non-pharmacological interventions and vaccination
  3. Discuss the pharmacotherapy of COPD including inhaler device types and matching the inhaler device to the patient
  4. Discuss the use of inhaled corticosteroids in COPD
  5. Describe the prevention and treatment of COPD exacerbations
