Overview 

Designed to give an overview of the treatment of GORD, options for tapering the dose of PPIs, management of mild to moderate GORD symptoms, and evidence supporting the use of OTC medicines for breakthrough GORD symptoms when taking PPIs.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Outline the treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)
  2. Describe the options for tapering the dose of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and management of mild to moderate GORD symptoms
  3. Describe the evidence supporting the use of over the counter medicines for addressing breakthrough GORD symptoms when taking PPIs
