Designed to give an overview of melatonin including its role in humans, medications that can interfere with melatonin metabolism, and how melatonin can affect circadian rhythm physiology.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. describe the physiological regulation and role of melatonin in humans;
  2. describe how medications can interfere with melatonin synthesis and metabolism;
  3. explain the pharmacotherapeutic impact of exogenous melatonin;
  4. describe how melatonin can affect circadian rhythm physiology.
