Overview 

Designed to give an overview of community acquired pneumonia. The article discussed the causes of pneumonia, the treatment and also vaccines available in Australia.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Recognise which patients are most at risk of developing pneumonia and the suspected mortality and morbidity associated with pneumonia.
  2. Identify the common causes of community-acquired pneumonia in different patient groups.
  3. Identify the empirical treatment regimen for adults with bacterial pneumonia.
  4. Describe the different pneumococcal vaccinations available and understand the rationale for their use
