Overview 

Give an overview of appropriate contact lens care and hygiene, and the role of the pharmacist in reinforcing information given to patients by optometrists

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. recall key complications associated with contact lens wear;
  2. recognise risk factors for microbial keratitis;
  3. recognise symptoms that require referral;
  4. recall contact lens care advice;
  5. recognise the requirements for use for different contact lens care systems;
  6. identify medications that may interfere with contact lens wear.

The 2016 Competency Standards addressed by this activity include: 1.1, 1.3, 1.5, 3.1
