Overview 

This activity provides an overview of the signs and symptoms of sore throats, along with pharmacologic and non-pharmacological management options.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. List the signs and symptoms of bacterial and viral conditions associated with sore throat
  2. Discuss pharmacological treatments for sore throat – both systemic and topical
  3. Describe the non-pharmacological management of sore throats, including vitamins, minerals and complementary medications, and the scientific evidence supporting their use
  4. Describe counselling points that pharmacists can discuss with patients presenting with sore throats
