Designed to give an overview of probiotics and the evidence base available to provide practical guidance for pharmacists when considering probiotics in practice.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

1. explain the differences in the biodiversity of gut microbiota, including inter-individual variations within the population;
2. list the different species of probiotics and the considerations that surround the use of probiotics in practice;

3. outline the evidence base surrounding the efficacy of different strains of probiotics and their use in specific conditions.
