Overview 

In an era of new professional pharmacy services, customer expectations of more diligent clinical record keeping, and the availability of pharmacist access to My Health Record and other clinical data, pharmacists and staff of community pharmacies should renew their awareness of privacy and confidentiality obligations.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. describe the importance of maintaining privacy and confidentiality in community pharmacy;
  2. describe the differences between personal and sensitive information;
  3. recognise the sensitive status of personal health information;
  4. recognise the implications of a breach of confidentiality.
