Overview 

Provides an overview of nutritional requirements during pregnancy for the development of a healthy baby, the changes in nutrient intake necessary to promote the development of a healthy pregnancy and baby, and the evidence supporting recommending nutrient supplementation during pregnancy.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. Describe the key consequences of nutrition and nutrient levels on pregnancy outcomes
  2. Describe the evidence base for recommendations of nutrient supplementation in pregnancy
  3. Describe the changes in nutrient intake necessary to promote development of a healthy pregnancy and baby
