Designed to give an overview of which medications can increase the risk of upper GI bleeding, and what recommendations pharmacists can make to mitigate those risks. 

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. list medicines associated with an increased risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding;
  2. describe the mechanism of action of upper and lower GI complications associated with NSAIDs;
  3. identify combinations of drugs associated with a high risk of excess gastrointestinal bleeding;
  4. recommend strategies to reduce the risk of medication-induced gastrointestinal bleeding
