This article describes the features and risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease and other common dementia syndromes, therapy options and practical tips to help minimise risk. While pharmacists tend to focus on the pharmacological interventions of dementia, new guidelines emphasise lifestyle changes over medications to reduce cognitive decline and dementia.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  3. identify risk factors for dementia;
  4. describe therapy options and practical tips to help minimise risk;
  5. discuss the role of carers;
