Overview 

Discusses the management of teething in children and young adults, tooth decay, the treatment of pain after tooth extraction, dental antibiotic prophylaxis, and the effects of medicines and illicit drugs on the teeth and jaw.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  1. describe the management of teething in infants and young adults;
  2. describe the extent of tooth decay in the Australian population;
  3. explain the treatment of pain following tooth extraction;
  4. describe dental antibiotic prophylaxis;
  5. list medicines and illicit drugs that can affect the teeth and jaw.
